Clean up your language! And other cleaning inspired phrases

They are important of course, and we provide them with a view to making sure you are always safe, cleaning effectively and keeping costs down for your company.

Cleaning tasks can seem trivial, mundane and a necessity that we each face daily in our lives whether at home or in work – and frankly one we could do without. Now, we know how important an effective cleaning regime is but have you ever stopped to think about other ways in which cleaning is important – in a cultural sense?

Stick with it, you’ll soon ‘take a shine to‘ this thread.

As a measure of just how important cleaning is simply listen to your everyday vocabularly!

As a measure of just how important cleaning is simply listen to your everyday vocabularly!

The Use of Cleaning Phrases in Everyday Life

How often have you annoyingly been woken up by the words ‘Rise and Shine’ or heard phrases such as ‘clean out‘, ‘mop up‘, ‘clean up‘, ‘to take someone to the cleaners‘. People are sometimes referred to as squeaky clean and you can have individuals or teams making a clean sweep of awards at ceremonies every year in sporting or artistic terms.

The language of cleaning has infiltrated every aspect of our lives and form both positive and negative terms that encompass the whole world and many different meanings.

When you think about it – cleaning terms and references to cleaning were bound to become an important make-up of the English vocabulary as it is something that everyone faces, whether they actually do it or not.

The Influence of Cleaning is Far Reaching – Now Make Sure You Continue to Effectively Clean

So, the influence of cleaning does seem to go further than the long reach of the feather duster alone, in everyday terms we use. But, at the end of the day though when all is ‘done and dusted‘, cleaning is something that is an important everyday task and can seem dull and boring to many. When it’s your profession there are a lot of different factors to consider.

Infection control & cleaning methods to help tackle a school outbreak. Part 2

Following on from the previous article, Infection control & cleaning methods to help tackle a school outbreak. Part 1, this documents the steps to undertake during and following an outbreak.

Cleaning Chemicals for use in treating a viral outbreak

Step by step guide to cleaning during an outbreak

It is important that a vigorous cleaning regime is carried out. This should occur twice daily as a minimum during the outbreak using clean, disposable cloths, dedicated colour-coded mops/mop buckets for toilet areas and appropriate cleaning chemicals for use in communal areas.

Vacuum cleaning carpets and buffing floors during an outbreak have the potential to recirculate the virus and are not recommended.

Washrooms

Step 1:  Wash hands, put on gloves and other protective wear, if required. Display warning signs.

Step 2:  Flush toilet or urinal. Force water around S bend with toilet brush. Apply Jangro Perfumed Toilet Cleaner undiluted and leave for a few minutes. Flush with clean water prior to disinfecting.

Step 3:  Spray Jangro Foaming Bactericidal Cleaner around the exterior bowl, ledges, shelves, door handles and cistern handle and wipe with a clean, damp cloth. Dispose of this cloth.

Step 4:  Using another disposable cloth, clean the basin with Jangro Foaming Bactericidal Cleaner first and then clean the lavatory seat.

Step 5:  If a bucket was used for cleaning it too must be cleaned after use with the Jangro Foaming Bactericidal Cleaner, dried and stored inverted on a rack.

Step 6:  The floor must then be mopped with Jangro Foaming Bactericidal Cleaner and the mop head laundered after use. Ensure that surfaces are dry before anyone uses the lavatory.

Cleaning Equipment for use with an outbreak

Communal areas

Frequently touched surfaces should be cleaned with Jangro Multi-Purpose Cleaner and rinsed to remove any organic matter before disinfecting with the Jangro Cleaner Disinfectant .

Step 1: Wash hands, put on gloves and other protective wear, if required. Display warning signs.

Step 2: Using a dampened disposable cloth with Jangro Cleaner Disinfectant, begin cleaning surfaces, changing cloths and solution as they become soiled. Work top down, e.g. high ledges, furniture and fittings etc.

Step 3: Using colour-coded mop head and handle, immerse into the Jangro Multi- Purpose cleaning solution (Follow the dilution guide).

Step 4: Mop the floor in 1-2 metre square sections. Mop edges with straight strokes and use a figure-of-eight pattern on the remainder of the section, turning the mop frequently. The floor should be fairly dry on completion. Move to the next section and repeat the process.

Step 5: Replace the mop head and solution as required throughout the cleaning process.

Step 6: On completion, remove the final mop head and place in the laundry bag, clean and dry all equipment and store safely and tidily in a secure storage area, away from other equipment; segregated according to colour-coding where appropriate.

Step 7: Remove and dispose of single-use gloves, apron and other protective wear. Thoroughly wash and sanitise your hands on removal of gloves. Remove warning signs when the area is dry.

Note: If the spillage has taken place on a carpet, thoroughly clean the affected area using either Jangro Odour Neutraliser or Micro Clean. If possible use a steam cleaner if appropriate, or a carpet extraction machine. Laundering and steam cleaning at a temperature of 70°C is recommended.

Hand washing

Hand washing is vital to prevent person to person transmission. It must be actively encouraged. Staff, children and visitors should be able to easily access liquid soap and paper towels. A foot operated bin is preferable to prevent recontamination of hands.

Jangro Alcohol Hand Gel is recommended in outbreak situations as a further measure to prevent person to person spread by contaminated hands.

Guide to cleaning following an outbreak

Once the outbreak is over, approx 72 hours after the last case, then a thorough environmental clean is required.

This will involve the surfaces and door handles being cleaned and carpets steam cleaned. Curtains should be washed on the highest setting which the fabric will withstand. Cleaning should be undertaken with separate colour coded equipment and disposable cloths. The virus can live in soft furnishings for weeks and this is an important measure to ensure the outbreak doesn’t recur.

Process of Cleaning:

  • Table tops where dust collects
  • Door handles and edges
  • Floors
  • Toilet facilities; including edges of doors, door handles, light switches etc

All areas are to be damp dusted with Jangro Multi-Purpose Cleaner and then with Jangro Cleaner Disinfectant or Jangro Medical Sanitiser. This ensures that dust and possible virus particles are wiped away. Carpets if soiled should be steam cleaned or at least shampooed. Jangro Multi-Purpose Cleaner can be used as a carpet pre-spray treatment.
